Intra- and inter-observer variability in sonographic measurement of the cervical nerve roots of healthy volunteers

Aim: The aim of our study is to determine the normal values mean cervical (C) nerve root diameter in millimeters (mm) healthy volunteers and show its relationship age, gender, height, weight, body mass index (BMI), dominant hand. Material Method: Two observers measured bilateral C5, C6, C7 all volunteers. Before procedure, sex, BMI, hand participants were noted. measurements taken by each two without one knowing about other’s noted values. intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) test was used analyze intra-and inter-observer reliability. Results: There no statistically significant between gender hand, diameter. Moreover, when we compared for nerves right left sides participant, statistical differences identified. C6 higher than that C7, which C5 on both (p < 0.001). ICC intra- good or excellent (ICC > 0.8). Conclusions: range diameters should be determined distinguish pathological conditions. In study, measurement highly reproducible with intra-observer agreement. Therefore, can confidently performed daily clinical practice.
